THE ART OF SERVICE IN THE WORK OF THE TOUR GUIDE
Regardless the type of tourism (ecotourism, adventure tourism, religious tourism, cultural tourism, event tourism, sports tourism, nautical tourism, mass tourism, religious tourism, rural tourism, business tourism, among others) the relationship between the tour guide and the tourist cannot simply be based on driving people from one place to another at a pre-established time.

Certification as already mentioned in another text in the blog titled “The Importance of Hiring a Certified Guide” is mandatory but in addition to technical training we must remember that the tour guide profession is based, in essence, on interpersonal relationships. So the tour guides must like to deal with people, or rather, they can`t consider the client as just “another service, among many others”.i
What the client really wants is to live the moment in its fullness. Tourism might represents the realization of a dream in this way the tour guide must practice the spirit of serving people but that does not mean just providing a service in a simply technical way or being submissive to someone.
Serving people represents an act of nobility and personal/ professional maturity and it is necessary to be committed to exceeding people’s expectations, recognizing that your core business is not conducting people by the city, but committing to their safety, well-being, and happiness.
The best way to serve tourists is to promote experiences that will exceed their expectations/dreams and will be remembered for a lifetime.
