CLIMATE AND ITS REFLECTION ON TOURIST ACTIVITY
Tourism is an activity closely related to the climate so climatic conditions represent an essential element in the creation/definition of tourist attractions. The climate represents one of the pillars that will define the identity of the tourist destination.
According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics Brazil due to its continental dimensions “is a country with great climatic diversity. In some places it is cold and in others very hot, but in general, our weather is warm in almost the entire territory”. Also according to Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics:
There are three types of climates in our country: equatorial, tropical and temperate. The equatorial climate covers a large part of the country including mainly the Amazon Forest region where it rains almost daily and is very hot. The tropical climate varies according to the region, but it is also hot and with less regular rainfall. The South of Brazil is a colder region of the country. It has a temperate climate which in winter can reach temperatures below zero degrees and snow.
Climate is one of the crucial elements that influences the selection of the destination for the next trip and thanks to the climatic diversity of our country we can chose several options in the most varied regions of Brazil based on their predominant climatic characteristics:

There are so many amazing options that it’s hard to choose a single city. The destination selection is just one element of the travel planning related to weather. The climate will also influences other aspects of the tourist’s trip such as:
1. Select the best time to travel:
The climate influences directly the seasonality of the tourist destination so the challenge for tourism professionals is to create attractions and/ or actions in order to mitigate this seasonality and not turn in to a hostage of the climatic conditions of the region.
2. Decide the number of days to remain in the city.
As important as attracting the customer to the receiving center is keeping the customer for as long as possible in the city and the climate will influence the decision on the number of days that the tourist will stay in the location.
3. Determine the best clothing to bring on the trip.
The tourist should consider the climate of the region that will be visited when selecting the clothes and the compliance of them with the climate of the region because it will directly influence practicality and comfort during the trip.
4. Activities that will be carried out in the tourist destination.
The climate will help in the selection of the activities that will encourage the visitor to stay as many days as possible in the location and take full advantage of its potential.
5. Expenses` forecast:
The weather will help to define the spending planning in the city as it is directly related to spending on accommodation, leisure activities, food and transportation in the tourist destination.
We cannot forget the importance of climatic aspects and their association with the tourists` experience. Let`s imagine a visit to city of Rio de Janeiro known for its natural beauties and its sunny day and having to be stuck in the hotel because due to the rains it will not be possible to go to Copacabana Beach, climb Pedra da Gávea or catch a glimpse of the Marvelous City from the top of Sugarloaf Mountain or Corcovado Mountain. There is a great possibility that this visit will be below the expectations of the tourists but when we talk about Brazil and mainly Rio de Janeiro we can`t forget that due to its tourist potential we can surprise the tourist regardless of the weather conditions especially if the tourist has the support of a certified tour guide but we will talk about this subject in the next text that will be titled “WHAT TO DO IN RIO DE JANEIRO ON A RAINY DAY”.
