In a text of our blog, we have presented Praia do Secreto (Secret beach), a true paradise practically unknown to most residents of our Wonderful City. Now, we will present another beach, also located in the west zone of the city of Rio: Grumari beach (Praia de Grumari), elected the 38th most beautiful beach in the world by the Travel Website Big 7 Travel, and the only Brazilian beach in the ranking of the 50 best beaches of the world.
Since there is no possibility of accessing this place by public transport, our suggestion is to hire a private transport service or go with your own vehicle and park close to the beach. Note that it is necessary to arrive as early as possible, for on weekends a spot for parking your car is “worth gold”.
On the weekends and holidays, the access to this beach will be according to parking capacity (200 spots in Prainha and 600 spots in Grumari), so after reaching this limit the access by both the State of Guanabara Avenue and Grumari Avenue will be closed, making it impossible the access it by car. People also go to these beaches by walking for about 1 km by the sea shore.
This beach is located in four Environmental Preservation areas:
- Grumari Municipal Natural Park.
- Grumari environmental Protection Area.
- Prainha Municipal Natural Park.
- Prainha environmental Protection Area
It’s better to visit this paradise on week days, and we suggest that you do it from Tuesday onwards, as in addition to going to the beach, you can also visit the Municipal Natural Park of Grumari (open from Tuesday to Sunday from 8am to 6pm). There you will discover the different types of birds and species of the Atlantic Forest that only exist in this region, some of which are threatened to extinction and are protected and preserved in these Protection Areas.
If you are looking for nature, beach, sun, swimming in the sea and good food in a place with an incredible landscape and view of the sea, Grumari Beach represents an excellent choice. It is possible to find places that offer meals, snacks, drinks and also umbrella and chair rental service, but you must remember that these spots are very popular on weekends.
Grumari beach with its 2,5 km long sea shore with fine sand, emerald green waters, privileged location (between the wild beaches and Abricó Beach) stands out for the cliffs, hills and restinga regions that surround it. Another feature that is appreciated by residents of our city is surfing. Grumari Beach is one of the best places to practice this sport due to the large waves. It is possible for the visitor to enjoy this experience together with an experienced surf instructor, but be careful, because it requires a lot of experience to surf in this place.
Last but not least, in order to complete your visit to Grumari Beach with a golden key, I suggest a visit to the Viewpoint of Grumari, unknown to many people that visit this beach. With its 200 square meters, and from which the visitor can see the entire beauty of Grumari Beach. The route to get to the Grumari Viewpoint is very easy and can be covered in just a few minutes.
From this viewpoint you can choose some angles with incredible landscapes, worthy of being captured in photos and vídeos.
