IPANEMA BEACH
The city of Rio de Janeiro is known worldwide as the Wonderful City. Among so many attractions our beaches represent an extremely valuable differential compared to other Metropolises around the world. They are known worldwide such as Copacabana Beach. In this text, we will talk about Ipanema Beach, elected as the 2nd best beach in the world by the travel guide Lonely Planet which presents the 100 best beaches in the world.
In 1894 the neighborhood of Ipanema was a farm that belonged to José Antônio Moreira known as the Baron of Ipanema and was called Vila Ipanema. Later on the farm was divided into lots and officially became a neighborhood in the city of Rio. However in order to sell the land lots José Antônio Moreira decided to build streets and squares, to attract people to this region. Today Ipanema is one of the most charming and valued neighborhoods in Brazil with a wide variety of theaters, hotels, bars, and restaurants, becoming one of the most visited places by tourists in our city..
As a resident of the city I`m not surprised with the title of second best beach in the world. After all watching the sunset at Ipanema Beach is an incredible spectacle so impactful that it is common for people to applaud this show of nature on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. From this beach, people can also admire other postcards of our city like the Morro Dois Irmãos and the Tijuca Forest.
With an extension of 2.6 kilometers Ipanema Beach is one of the most desired destinations by tourists and city residents alike, not only because of its incredible beauty but also due to various factors such as:
- The fine, white and soft sands.
- The waves sometimes gentle and sometimes strong.
- The tropical vegetation, where coconut trees stand out contrasting with the vastness of the blue sea and crystal clear waters.
In addition to all that it has a unique atmosphere, a bohemian, relaxed and cosmopolitan air and a diversity of gastronomic options offered by the various kiosks on its large sidewalk. People can enjoy this paradise during the day or at night, as many kiosks offer musical attractions in the evenings and on the weekends. We also must mention the variety of excellent trendy bars and restaurants on the streets close by.
The famous sidewalk of this incredible beach attracts people from all styles of life, whether for walking, running, biking, practicing sports, relaxing, clearing their minds or enjoying special moments with someone special. It’s amazing the variety of people that visit Ipanema. We come across young people, elderly, athletes, children, Brazilians from different cities, residents of Rio and foreign tourists. It is essential to emphasize that this beach was also voted in 2021 the second best beach in the world for the LGBTQIA+ public.
It is also famous for hosting numerous sports events such as surf competitions, beach volleyball, and footvolley, attracting athletes and lovers of these sports. Being also the venue for various other outdoor events.
Ipanema Beach represents the essence of the carioca lifestyle blending lush nature, culture, entertainment, gastronomy, and beautiful and cool people in a harmonious, charming and unique way.
